There’s nothing more exciting than going to a ball game. The sites, the sounds, the atmosphere all contribute to our enjoyment as the game itself. The ballparks of Pittsburgh have left a historic footprint on the collective psyche of our town. But do you know where the first baseball game in Pittsburgh was played? What about the legend of the monkey buried under home plate? What about the lost ballpark that was THE actual first Black owned and operated that now lies forgotten in a tangle of weeds and bramble?

Join teacher and baseball historian, Vincent T. Ciaramella on a trip across the city and across time from 1857-2025 as we explore the many places that Pittsburgh has played ball.

About the author
Vincent T. Ciaramella (1978-present) is a native of Pittsburgh and has been living in the Steel City for over forty years. He is the author of Jack McClelland: The Pride of Pittsburg as well as the Greats in the Graveyard series among others.

When not working on books, he writes biographies for SABR (The Society for American Baseball Research) as well as articles for the IBRO (International Boxing Research Organization). His latest book, A Shooting Star Across the Silver Screen. Olive Thomas: A Biography was published on October 31, 2024.
