Connect Through Stories.Join us for a monthly gathering where community, conversation, and wellness come together at our new Health and Wellness Book Club in Evanston. Ahimsa work/study students, Jennifer Kohrs and Ann Brownell, bring warmth, insight, and a sense of community spirit to every gathering. Our "club" is a space for Ahimsa yogis to explore books that inspire healthier, more mindful living—one page at a time.
We will meet the second Sunday of each month to discuss the agreed upon books. This month’s book, Why We Sleep by Matthew Walker, dives into the fascinating science of something we all do—but often take for granted: sleep. Walker, a neuroscientist and sleep expert, shows how sleep impacts everything from our memory and mood to our immune system and long-term health. He breaks down what really happens during the different stages of sleep and how things like caffeine, alcohol, and screen time can quietly sabotage our rest. What’s eye-opening is how essential sleep is—not just for feeling refreshed, but for literally keeping us alive and thriving. The book is a mix of science, stories, and practical advice that makes you look at bedtime in a whole new way.
After our hour-long meeting, you might choose to unwind even deeper by joining the gentle, calming yoga class at 6:00 pm (please register separately). This can be a perfect complement to our conversations!
The book club is a FREE event! You must register however, and - of course - come prepared to discuss the book of the month. Whether you're a seasoned yogi, a curious reader, or looking to spark new habits, this club is for you.
