Series Overview:

Join us for a three-part workshop series inspired by Vizcaya’s gardens, historic spirit, and commitment to sustainability and community. Each month, participants will engage in hands-on creative practices that explore how nature, sustainability, and culture can be expressed through botanical arts.

This series is beginner-friendly, accessible, and thoughtfully designed to promote cultural appreciation, mindful making, and eco-conscious creativity.



Monthly Workshops & Themes
October 16th – Floral Impressions: Stitching with Nature

Learn the Japanese technique of Tataki Zomé (flower pounding) to transfer natural pigments from flowers and leaves onto fabric. Then, use beginner embroidery stitches to enhance your botanical print.
Takeaway: A hand-embroidered, naturally dyed fabric piece
Materials Provided: Embroidery kit, fresh flowers, tools, and more



November 13th – Nature Preserved: Botanical Bookmark Craft

Create a resin bookmark using pre-pressed flowers and leaves, preserving nature’s beauty in a personal keepsake.
Takeaway: A handmade botanical resin bookmark
Materials Provided: Resin molds, UV machines, pressed flora, and decorative elements



December 18th– Naturally Festive: Embroidered Ornament Hoops

Watch a live demo on natural dyeing with onion skins and avocado pits, then stitch a holiday motif into pre-dyed fabric to create a meaningful ornament or gift.
Takeaway: A finished embroidered ornament
Materials Provided: Naturally dyed fabric, embroidery supplies, and printed templates

LOCATION | This activity takes place exclusively at Vizcaya Village, the estate’s historic farm village, and does not include access to the east side of the property where the Main House and gardens are located.

AGRICULTURE NIGHTS: CONNECT & CREATE SERIES | Discover the beauty and importance of plants in our lives through “AgriCulture Nights.” This inspiring monthly series invites the community to explore their relationship with nature by engaging in creative activities like art making and cooking. Join us at Vizcaya Village to deepen your connection to the environment, learn about the uses of plants, and celebrate their significance to both people and the planet. Each session offers a unique opportunity to create, connect, and cultivate wellness in a vibrant, supportive setting.

To promote inclusion for all, Vizcaya ensures that all community programs, after-hour and weekend events for locals, feature activities that are physically accessible to all visitors. While not all areas of the estate are wheelchair accessible, community programs are purposefully located in areas without stairs or that can be accessed via a ramp.


About the Artist

Stephanie Alvarez is the founder of StitchAway Designs, a creative studio that blends the

timeless art of embroidery with modern, sustainable, and hands-on experiences. What

began as her personal love for embroidery has grown into a movement that celebrates

culture, community, and creativity, transforming a traditional craft into an inspiring and

accessible experience for all.

Stephanie believes embroidery is more than stitches on fabric it’s a joyful practice that

invites people to slow down, connect with their creativity, and have fun in the simple

rhythm of needle and thread. Her workshops are warm, engaging, and designed for all skill

levels, encouraging participants to experiment, play, and discover the beauty of handmade work in a supportive, community setting.

Sustainability is at the heart of her practice. From experimenting with natural dyes to

collaborating with fair-trade artisans in Guatemala, Stephanie emphasizes mindful making

that empowers people to create with purpose while honoring cultural traditions and caring

for the environment. Through her workshops and creative collaborations, she nurtures

connection, sparks imagination, and shows that every stitch has the power to tell a stor
