Vernon Lapidary & Mineral Club Members, field trip for our members this Sunday May 31th for agate Access: This site can be reached by suv no cars. There will be a car pool area 8 km from the sites. This site is a private claim that is accessible by a 2 hour hike or through a farmers property that is 10 dollars head charge that will enable you to drive to the center of the claim. Once in the claim you are hiking for your treasure up to an extra 1/2 hr.
How do I participate?
- To attend the trip ensure your 2026 membership dues are paid and meet Trip Leader Ken ~7:45am on Sunday May 31th at the west end of the Vernon Walmart parking Taco Del Mar parking lot to register before the departure.
- We leave at 8AM SHARP so come a little early for registration, specimen samples and valuable instruction!
- *IF COMING FROM WEST of westwold you can meet the club at the highway 97 douglas lake road turn off Road turn off ,you need to be there ready to join the back of the convoy once they pull through and give you the wave. From there we will traveling approximately 4 km to the onion fsr. That is the car pool site. We will the travel 6 km south to the access gate and then a further 2km up the hill. There will be no access if you are late.
What should I bring?
- Equipment: Rockhammer, mini-sledge/ chisels, 3 or 4 prong rake, spray bottle, safety glasses, gloves, kneeling pad and a container for your treasures!
- Personal: Bring camera, lunch, snacks, refreshments to stay hydrated, bug deterrent (tick season has started) etc. Dress for the weather!
