About this Event
Join us for a powerful Black Maternal Health Week gathering centered on love, fatherhood, and collective healing. Aftershock follows Black fathers who transform unimaginable loss into advocacy, art, and community care—reminding us that paternal health, presence, and partnership are essential to maternal safety and justice.
Following the screening, hear from a panel of fathers sharing their lived experiences navigating childbirth, fear, loss, and resilience. Panelists include:
- Clayton Anderson, Founder and Chairman of the SHINE With Joy Foundation, became a national advocate for maternal health equity after losing his wife, Krystal, to sepsis following the stillbirth of their daughter.
- Lewis Smith, MPA, Senior Manager of Health Access and Quality at the American Diabetes Association, whose work in health equity, community engagement, and sustainable health improvement brings a critical lens to how systems impact Black families.
Enjoy a family-friendly evening with a popcorn bar, vegan food options, a kid-friendly quiet zone, and creative spaces inspired by the Aftershock toolkit. Together, we honor Black fathers not only in grief, but in joy, responsibility, and community love.
