As the light of the year fades, we turn inward to the eternal light within. This afternoon series offers a gentle immersion in the Gāyatrī Mantra, one of the most sacred invocations of the Vedas — a prayer to the sun, to consciousness, and to the awakening of insight.
Across three afternoons, we will learn the mantra with care – exploring pronunciation, rhythm, and meaning – allowing its sound to settle deeply into stillness.
Each session blends chanting, reflection, and quiet rest, completing the contemplative rhythm of the morning yoga practice (if attending) A perfect choice for “new beginnings” – invoking clarity, a fresh start, and deeper awareness.
Meaning:
We meditate upon the radiant light of the divine,
who inspires and illuminates our understanding.
Day 1 – December 27: Entering the Light
Focus: Sound, meaning, and devotion.
We begin by exploring the origins of the Gāyatrī in the Ṛgveda and its timeless invocation of inner radiance.
Through guided listening and careful repetition, we learn the mantra line by line, letting sound, breath, and meaning harmonise.
A short reflection invites awareness of what “light” signifies as the year turns toward renewal.
Day 2 – December 28: Resonance and Rhythm
Focus: Flow, intonation, and meditative sound.
We refine pronunciation and begin to feel the mantra’s natural rhythm (chandas).
Through repetition with Vedic intonation, the Gāyatrī becomes less an act of speech and more a current of awareness.
As tone and breath align, we begin to sense the mantra’s living energy- luminous, expansive, and deeply centering.
Day 3 – December 29: Meditation in Sound
Focus: Integration and inner absorption.
We chant the full mantra with ease and flow, entering its resonance as meditation.
Through repetition (japa), reflection, and shared silence, sound dissolves into stillness – the light of awareness shining quietly within.
We close the year with gratitude, clarity, and a sense of renewal through sacred sound.
