About this Event
A Casual Conversation About Reality, Simulation, and What Physics Actually Says
Join a PhD Theoretical Physicist for an intimate evening that explores one of the most intriguing questions of our time. The idea that we might be living in a matrix has captured the imagination of philosophers, technologists, and the internet alike. But what does modern physics actually say about it?
This is not a sci fi debate or a philosophical abstraction disconnected from reality. It is a grounded and thought provoking conversation rooted in how physicists understand the universe today. You will explore how concepts from quantum mechanics, information theory, and the limits of computation shape what is possible and what is not. Along the way, we will unpack where the simulation idea comes from, where it holds weight, and where it starts to break under closer scrutiny.
Expect big questions, sharp insights, and a conversation that sits right at the intersection of physics, philosophy, and modern technology. There will be plenty of room to challenge ideas, ask questions, and rethink what you assume to be true about the nature of reality.
Whether you are skeptical, curious, or just enjoy thinking about the biggest questions we can ask, you will leave with a clearer sense of what science can and cannot say about the idea of living in a matrix.
Do not miss your chance to sip, think, and connect with fellow curious adults through your After5Society.
About The Speaker:
Bhavay Tyagi is a theoretical physicist from India, currently based in Houston, whose research focuses on quantum many body systems and quantum chaos. He has contributed to research at Los Alamos National Laboratory and continues to explore some of the most complex and fundamental questions in physics. Beyond his research, Bhavay is deeply interested in the philosophy of physics and the role of creativity in scientific progress, especially in an era shaped by artificial intelligence. He is actively engaged in the physics community through journal clubs, science policy, and public engagement, and he creates content aimed at making deep scientific ideas more accessible and thought provoking. His perspective emphasizes that progress in physics is not just about technical skill, but about originality, curiosity, and the willingness to challenge boundaries.
