As a tribute to the late actress Diane Keaton, the After Hours Film Society presents “Annie Hall,” the 1977 film that honored Keaton with her first Oscar nomination and win for best actress in the title role. The impact of her captivating performance as the aspiring singer extended well beyond her skillful acting. Keaton helped pave the way for women in Hollywood by challenging traditional portrayals of femininity, embracing authentic characters, and establishing herself as a respected actress and director. She became an icon of female empowerment and independence, both on-screen and through her personal choices.Woody Allen portrays a neurotic, highly insecure and indecisive comedy writer who falls head over heels in love with a naive small-town girl who aspires to be a singer. The opening rounds of their relationship involve every romantic cliche. And despite having moved in together, his insecurities get the best of him as he interprets her every move as rejection. While her self-confidence grows, his progressively fades. Can this oddball romance survive?
Organist David Rhodes and the Mighty Wurlitzer preshow concerts welcome attendees as they arrive. The organ lights up 30 minutes before the screening, so come early and enjoy the music!
