About this Event

Turner brings her Afronautic methodology to our Visual Arts Gallery with a special workshop on Saturday, October 5, 2024.

Join artist Camille Turner and the Outerregion collective for an immersive workshop tailored for artists, educators, students, and citizen researchers alike. Through this interactive experience participants will use Afronautic Research principles to explore silenced histories and embark on a journey of discovery and imagination.

Participants will leave the workshop equipped with a deeper attunement to silenced histories, a toolkit of Afronautic research methodologies, and inspiration to incorporate these principles into their own creative and scholarly endeavours.

The workshop will span approximately 90 minutes and will include interactive sessions, group activities, and discussions.

Participants are encouraged to bring an open mind, and a willingness to engage imaginatively with historical narratives.

The workshop will take place on Saturday, October 5, 2024

1:00 - 2:30 p.m.

Camille Turner is an artist/scholar whose work combines Afrofuturism and historical research. She is a Provost’s postdoctoral fellow at University of Toronto’s Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design, and her award-winning artworks are held in collections across Canada and internationally. Her most recent explorations confront Canada’s entanglement with the transatlantic trade in Africans, approaching colonial archives from the point of view of a liberated future.
