About this Event

Afro Trance Dance™️ is the sober dance movement reframing rave culture. Centering POC/queer pro DJs & wellness facilitators. Where altered states of consciousness, a sense of liberation, bliss and euphoria can be experienced on the dancefloor; where music and unity are the catalyst for a natural high.

~The Music~

Music and dance are the great unifiers. Afro Trance Dance™️ centers African electronic dance music, complemented by sounds & rhythms from around the world, creating a musical reminder of what we have forgotten; that we are all one, and all come from the same source, same land – Africa. Expect Afro House, Amapiano, Gqom, Baile, Afrobeat, Dub, Reggae, Kuduro + other sounds rooted in Africa, synergised with Tech/Techno, Drum & Bass, House, Melodic, Ambient +more

~Our Intention~

While our focus is unity, it’s crucial to show respect for heritage and acknowledge the historical and present day systemic oppression faced by black people and other marginalised communities, rather than bypassing it. We do this through centering and celebrating those who have been excluded and exploited for far too long, and through giving back 5% of our profits to charities & social enterprises that empower and advocate for Africa and its diaspora. Our chosen charity/social enterprise for 2024 will be announced at our opening event.

We invite you to co-create this new paradigm with us - one in which there is a shift in power from a minority, to a global majority. Where a synergy on the dancefloor between different types of people from different walks of life, creates a portal for unity. Where a thriving symbiotic ecosystem of exchange exists again, where we live in alignment with the highest good for all. Where we - a community of all races, genders and religions, utilise the power of music and dance to connect with ourselves, each other and our planet. Holding the vision for change, dancing as a revolution.

This is for people who actually give a f*ck and know the power of us coming together to form a mycelium network in which each individual’s presence and actions contributes to the health and wealth of the whole.

~What To Expect~

Afro Trance Dance™️ combines the ritual elements of opening and closing circles, no phones and no talking on the dancefloor, to create a powerful container of presence and connection.

~FAQs~

What’s the dress code?

Your authentic vibration. Come as you wish to express yourself on the dancefloor. For some this might be comfy sports or yoga wear, for others it could be bright colours & party vibes.

Do I need to attend the opening circle?

Yes, if you want to get the most out of your Afro Trance Dance™️ experience.

Each event begins with a guided somatic practice designed to release stagnant energy and tension from the body and mind, supporting you to drop into deep embodied presence and free flow movement. To avoid disruption to this experience, anyone who's not in the room for the opening circle at 11am will miss out on this section of the event. Arrivals are from 10.30am.

What if I feel self conscious dancing sober?

The opening of each Afro Trance Dance™️ event is specifically designed to support you in getting out of your head and into your body, so you can let go of any anxiety or self-consciousness and let music and unity be the catalyst for a natural high.

What if I'm coming on my own?

Afro Trance Dance™️ is a community gathering which invites cohesion and synergy, uniting together through shared values; making it easy and natural to make deep and meaningful connections. Our dancefloor is also a space for you to journey inwards through your personal practice. There's no talking on the dancefloor and no pressure to interact with anyone else if you don't want to.

Is there an opportunity to connect and network with the community?

Whilst there's no talking on the dancefloor during the event, you can arrive from 10.30am (30 minutes before the dance begins). The space will also be open for 1 hour after the dance ends for those who’d like to stay.

What if I have mobility issues?

The venue has disabled access, but please let us know in advance so we can ensure there's a staff member present to take you up in the lift. We have chairs in the space if you need to sit down and space angels who can help you locate them. We invite all attendees to honour their own bodies and needs.

Are children allowed?

Children may join at the discretion of those responsible for them and must be supervised at all times to prevent disruption to others. The meditative aspects of Afro Trance Dance™️ may mean it’s unsuitable for children at an age where silence can not be honoured. Our soundsystem is club grade and children have sensitive ears, so it’s recommended they wear ear defenders or ear plugs. All children must have a ticket.

What is your refund policy?

Tickets are non-refundable, but you’re welcome to pass on to a friend if you can no longer make it. They'll need to bring the Eventbrite ticket/s to the event to be scanned in at the door.
