Come and celebrate the rich Afro-Mexican culture through a thought-provoking short film screening (16 minutes), and an engaging lecture. Learn about the vibrant history, complicated relations, and contributions of the Afro-Mexican community.
Dream Week 2025's theme "We Are Neighbor" ties in perfectly with this program event. "The Afro Mexpats” a short documentary film by ‘Blaxican’ Filmmaker, EBONY MARIE BAILEY documents the experiences of expat Black Women who moved to Mexico over the years. Our guest speaker: BARBARA COLUMBUS, a locally based Cultural Anthropologist dives deeper into a discussion on the identy, activism, ethnic solidarity and cultural perservation aspects of these two salient ethnic groups.
