The Global Pan-African Movement: North American Delegation (GPAM), the Pan-African
Community of Central New York (PACCNY), and the Africa Initiative Student Organization of
Syracuse University invites the Syracuse community to join us in commemorating African
Liberation Day 2026 on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Community Folk Art Center,
located at 805 East Genesee Street, Syracuse, NY 13210.
This year’s theme is:
“Haiti & Cuba: Defending Pan-African Unity Against Imperialism”
Observed annually on May 25, African Liberation Day (ALD) is an international
commemoration rooted in the struggles of African peoples for liberation, self-determination,
dignity, and unity. Across Global Africa, ALD serves as a moment to reflect on the ongoing fight
against colonialism, imperialism, racial oppression, and economic exploitation, while celebrating
The enduring resistance and contributions of African peoples worldwide.
This year’s Syracuse commemoration will bring together students, community members,
activists, educators, artists, and organizations for an afternoon of political education, solidarity,
cultural reflection, and collective engagement.
The program will include:
• Community speakers and solidarity statements
• Political education and discussion
• Reflections on the contemporary struggles facing African and oppressed peoples globally
• Cultural presentations and artistic expression
• Opportunities for community connection and organizing
