African Drumathon is a free, welcoming African drumming event where anyone can take part — no experience needed.
When: Saturday 28th February, 13:00–17:00
Where: Sharrow Community Forum, The Old Junior School, South View Rd, Sharrow, Sheffield S7 1DB
(Car park and main hall access via entrance on Vincent Road)
This is a drop-in drumming space, open to everyone. You can join in, listen, try something new, or simply enjoy the atmosphere. All drums are provided, and you’re free to come and go — even a few minutes is absolutely fine.
At the heart of the day is a personal challenge.
Steve Rivers (Unbeatable Energy) will be drumming continuously for four hours, without stopping, as part of a fundraising challenge for Project 6, a Sheffield-based charity supporting people affected by substance use and addiction.
The public are a key part of this. By joining in — even briefly — you’re actively helping carry the rhythm, supporting the challenge, and building the shared energy that makes it possible. The more people involved, the easier it gets, the stronger the groove becomes, and the bigger the vibe.
Steve and his team will be there throughout, guiding and supporting people with simple rhythms and grooves, so anyone can take part confidently. There’s no pressure to perform or keep up — just join in at your own pace.
Members of Project 6 will be present on the day for anyone who would like to donate, but there’s no obligation. Turning up, taking part, and being part of the atmosphere already makes a difference.
If you’ve ever been curious about African drumming, this is the easiest, most welcoming way to try it — and be part of something genuinely special.
No tickets required — this is a free drop-in event.
