EVERYONE is invited and welcome to join us on this authentic, enriching and unique trip to learn more about the roots, history, culture, and beauty of Cuba. Cuba is a beautiful island filled with captivating rhythms, rich history, unspoiled beautiful nature and landscapes, and a rich vibrant Afro-Latin culture. This trip will be your gateway to an authentic Cuban experience, with beautiful memories that will last you a lifetime.
Cuba is considered to be one of the African Diaspora countries because African slaves were also taken there during the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. There is an undeniable visible African heritage and presence in the Dominican Republic through its culture, people and way of life.
Who are the Afro-Cubans?
Afro-Cubans are Cubans of African ancestry. The first Africans of various ethnic groups sucha s Yoruba, Congos etc., arrived in Cuba in 1513, during the Translantic Slave Trade, to primarily work in sugar plantations. Their presence and cultural contributions have profoundly shaped Cuban society, particularly in music, dance, religion, and art.
The recent Black population in Cuba suggests that the percentage of individuals of African descent could be significantly higher, possibly reaching between 33% and 60%, or even higher according to some estimates. This is due to the fact that many Cubans with mixed ancestry or lighter skin tones may identify as "white" or "mulatto" rather than "black".
We will be in Havana - The Capital City of Cuba!
During the African Diaspora Trip to Cuba, we will spend most of our time in Havana, where we will fully immerse in Afro-Cuban culture through music, dance, city tours, community engagement, cultural exchanges and the amazing Cuban nightlife.
Havana has the largest population of black people in Cuba. The precise percentage of the black population in Havana can vary, depending on the source and definition of the term "Black."
The Afro-Cuban community in Havana has a very rich African heritage and roots, evident in its culture which includes music, dance, religion, and traditions. This culture has played a vital role in shaping Havana's cultural landscape and a significant part of the city's identity. Enslaved Africans who worked on sugar plantations and other industries contributed immensely to the development of the city. Casa de Africa (House of Africa) Museum located in Havana, is one of the many attractions that we will visit while in Cuba.
We will go to Varadero Beach!
We can not go to Cuba and not enjoy Varadero beach! This popular beach, along the Atlantic Ocean coastline, is cited as the best beach in Cuba because of its extensive white sand, calm turquoise waters, and numerous amenities. It's a popular spot for families and tourists because it offers a wide range of activities, attractions, hotels and spas.
