Drawing on church records of baptisms and burials and old “ runaway” newspaper adverts we can piece together a picture of the men and women of African and Caribbean heritage, free and unfree,who came to Greenwich.
From Deptford to Woolwich evidence of the streets, houses, institutions and families they were connected tohelps to re-focus the traditional heritage story of kings and queens, ships and canons.
