🟡 Opis / Description:
A Reclamation of Heritage: Africans at the Forefront of Telling African History
„Before you study history, you must first study the historian”. In this guided experience, Thelma examines what is lost and distorted in translation when our narratives are filtered through outside lenses. Taking place within the permanent exhibition „African Expeditions, Asian Ways”, the event invites participants to explore the indispensable role of oral tradition in the African context and to reflect on why the reclamation of our own storytelling is not just a matter of pride, but of accuracy.
„African Expeditions, Asian Ways” has been on view at the State Ethnographic Museum in Warsaw since October 2020. In 2024, it became the subject of our reflection and actions aimed at rethinking the representation of African and Asian cultural heritage. An important impulse for this process was a meeting with our audiences, including representatives of the communities and cultures of origin of the exhibits.
