About this Event
Finding and playing the game of the scene can be fun and satisfying for the improvisers and the audience. However, without a strong foundation, games and patterns can feel surface and shallow without a base reality to anchor them. In this five week class, students will dig into what it takes to create the solid ground to play any improvised scene with a focus on recognizing and understanding interpersonal dynamics and behavior for the sake of consistency and longevity,
Over five weeks studentss will also incorporate exercises exploring the Four Japanese Concepts of Space to explore how space between people can be interpreted and played with, to explore how changes in location affect behavior, to explore how location or method of communication can influence the sharing/creation of information, and to explore how empty space between moments can be used to deepen relationships or one’s understanding of the scene, as well as allowing dissimilar things to coexist.
This class includes a showcase and lots of personal feedback. The prerequisite for this class is completion of Level Five Improv at Stomping Ground Comedy Theater or graduation from an equivalent training program with permission from the Training Center Director.
Topics in the Class will Focus on:
- Establishing a strong foundation (WHO/WHAT/WHERE)
- Building scenes incrementally
- Deep listening and starting in the middle
- Discovery rather than invention.
- Responding to the latest thing without dropping past things.
- Direct Feedback for Individual Performers
This is a five week recurring in-person course held Mondays, 7-9:30pm starting Monday, March 17th . The instructor is Hayden McGovern. All sales are final. Listed price of class does not include Eventbrite's service fee (3.7% + $1.79) and payment processing fee (2.9%) which will be added to the total price at checkout. Classes are non-refundable but enrollment may be deferred to a future class with TCD approval. All students must adhere to policies in the Stomping Ground Student Handbook. Must be 18 years or older.
