Advanced Improv: Narrative Improvisation

In this seven week course, students will learn the skills necessary to improvise engaging narratives as seen on the Stomping Ground mainstage such as the Improvised Hallmark movie and the improvised B-Movie. Students will stretch both their acting and writing skills, as they create compelling protagonists with strong desires and make the moves as an ensemble to take them on a journey. Students will practice leaning into genre tropes while playing characters who commit hard to the emotions and reality of the story. This class includes a student showcase. The prerequisite for this class is Level Four Improv at Stomping Ground or permission from the Training Center Director.

This course will focus on:

• Scenic Painting and Working as an Ensemble
• Establishing World Building and Characters in the First Act
• Starting Boring and Creating a Platform
• Piling on the Protagonist and Offering Them Choices
• Using Story Spine to Identify Beats and Tropes in Genre
• Performing the Show

This is a 7 week recurring in-person course held Thursdays, 7-9:30pm starting Thursday, October 27th. The instructor is Lindsay Goldapp. All sales are final. Classes are non-refundable but enrollment can be deferred to a future class. All students must adhere to policies in the Stomping Ground Student Handbook. Must be 18 years or older. Masks are strongly recommended for students who are not fully vaccinated. Classrooms and common areas will be sanitized prior to each class.
