About this Event
Think • Build • Model: 3D Design with SketchUp
Growing Beyond TinkerCAD...
This programme is designed for students who have prior experience in 3D modelling and are ready to deepen their understanding of space, scale, and design. Through an introduction to SketchUp, a professional design tool used by architects and designers, students learn how to turn ideas into well-thought-out 3D models while developing spatial awareness and design thinking skills.
SketchUp’s intuitive interface makes it accessible for younger learners, while its powerful features allow older students to explore more detailed and complex designs. Students learn not just how to model, but why designers make certain decisions; considering scale, proportion, form, and function along the way.
Through guided, hands-on modelling tasks, students move beyond passive screen time and actively engage in creating, measuring, and refining their designs. The programme naturally integrates concepts from mathematics, art, science, and technology, helping students understand how digital tools connect to real-world design and problem-solving.
Most importantly, this programme builds confidence and independence. Students are encouraged to plan, experiment, and improve their ideas through iteration, developing a strong sense of ownership as their designs evolve from simple concepts into final 3D models.
What students will learn:
By the end of the programme, students will:
- Understand 3D space, scale, and proportion
- Use core SketchUp tools
- Translate 2D sketches and ideas into 3D models
- Apply basic design thinking principles, including form, function, and structure
Who this programme is for:
- Students who have prior experience with TinkerCAD or 3D modelling
- Curious learners interested in architecture, design, or making
- Ages 9 – 12/ 13 –16
