Adelaide Megagames Presents: Disco Never Dies

One month ago the city of Radelaide's preeminent nightlife hotspot, Hal’s Groovin’ Castle, burned down. While many in the community mourned the destruction of this cultural icon, there were others who realised that this was an opportunity for those remaining venues to take control of the city’s live music landscape. The demise of this once great hotspot will be responsible for breathing a new life back into a live music scene that was in danger of being snuffed out. But was the fire truly an accident?
Come and join us for a day of grooves, glitz and glam as we dive into the 70s with Disco Never Dies!

A megagame is a blend of a board game, a roleplaying game and a social experiment, where players will assume the roles of important figures within the world of the game, playing out a scenario over the course of a single day.

While a megagame shares a lot of the same elements as LARP and other roleplaying games, players do not adopt a character so much as they play as themselves assuming their chosen role -- such as a head of state, diplomat, military commander, etc. Of course, you're still welcome to dive into the world of the game by dressing up or inventing a persona if you wish! But the game does not require you to do so.

In Disco Never Dies, players will participate in teams of 2, 3 or 4; doing their best to navigate the emerging struggle for control of the city's nightlife while progressing their own goals. Negotiating with (or scheming against) other teams is a crucial part of a megagame, as no team has everything they need for success.

There are 42 player roles in Disco Never Dies, consisting of Venue Owners, Record Labels and Community Groups.

Please note: We are experimenting with a new method of ticket sales for this game -- for the first week tickets will only be available for entire teams. After this, we will open up the remaining spaces for individual purchase.

Venue Owners (4 players per team)

These players will manage the nightlife hotspots that have managed to remain open despite the overwhelming popularity of Hal's Groovin' Castle. Now that it is gone, these teams are poised to step up and wrest control of the city's live music scene for themselves -- but who will emerge on top once the dust settles?

There are six Venues that remain open at the start of Disco Never Dies:

• Beauty & the Beats
• Dance By Me
• Happy Feet
• Nightlife of Brian
• Silence & the Jams
• Top Fun

Venue Owner teams have no unique roles, all four players are able to participate in all aspects of the game.

Record Labels (2 players per team)

Radelaide's live music talent is managed by these players. These teams are working to outdo their competitors by cultivating the next global music superstar from their roster of performing artists.

There are three Record Labels that operate in the game:

• Apotheosis Records
• Pursuit of Tone
• Vinyl Countdown

Record Label teams have no unique roles, both player positions are equivalent.

Community Groups (3 players per team)

The city's nightlife is of interest to more than just the Venues and Record Labels -- several prominent figures with the community are also invested in securing its future.

The Mayor's Office is responsible for upholding the city's laws, as well as ensuring the Mayor is victorious in the upcoming mayoral election that takes place at the end of the game. This team has two unique roles:

• The Mayor
• Aides (2 players)

The Mafia represents Radelaide's shady underworld. Though they travel in unsavoury circles, the Boss is running against the Mayor in the upcoming election. Available positions for this team are:

• The Boss
• Capos (2 players)

The Community Radio work tirelessly to report on the events that take place in the city, with a big focus on which bands are performing, as well as keeping up to date on the Mayor and the Boss' election campaigns. This team consists of:

• Legendary DJ
• Producers (2 players)

The Bank has only one goal -- to make money. Though they are committed to supporting the local nightlife scene, they are shrewd finanicial institution that always collects their payments in full. They are able to provide loans to other teams, as well as managing the sale (or hostile takeovers) of the city's nightlife hotspots. This team is comprised of:

• Bank Manager
• Accountants (2 players)
