About this Event
This 4 hour course will be delivered ONLINE using MS Teams by one of our experienced trainers.
It is no secret that working with people with addiction to drugs and alcohol can be challenging. This course will help to understand addiction and provide you with skills helping you to engage with those who are seemingly stuck in the same cycle.
Derbyshire Alcohol Advice Service have been delivering training about Drugs and Alcohol for many years and have developed this course as a follow-on session to our awareness courses.
What you'll learn:
- Understand about the effects of being addicted to drugs and alcohol
- Know the warning signs of addiction
- Understand what addiction is
- Understand the root of the problem
- Build confidence in delivering an early/brief intervention including how to:
Open and close a conversation
Use appropriate screening tools to assess risk and provide feedback
Motivate individuals to change their behaviour
How to respond to challenging behaviour
Refer to specialist substance Misuse Services
This an interactive course where we encourage you to participate in open discussions, group work and we will ask questions throughout the course. Please join in and get involved, we want you to share your knowledge and experience!
This course is a follow on from our Alcohol and Substance Awareness courses. It is helpful if you have attended one of these courses prior to booking a place, or have prior knowledge about drugs and alcohol..
Places on this course are funded by Derbyshire County Council for anyone working/volunteering in the fields of health, social or community work in Derbyshire. Places are charged if you do not fill this criteria.
