Our Speaker Dr Wing Chu:
Dr Wing Chu is Consultant in Musculoskeletal, Sport and Exercise Medicine (SEM) who works both in private medicine and in the NHS where he is the lead Consultant in the Bromley community musculoskeletal service. Dr Chu has extensive experience in treating a wide range of patients from elite and recreational athletes across a variety of sports, to military personnel and individuals with age and work-related injuries.
He is currently the Chief Medical Officer for Surrey County Cricket Club’s South East Stars Team. He has previously worked for several other Premier League and Championship Football Clubs including West Ham United FC, Tottenham Hotspur FC, Chelsea FC and Millwall FC. In addition, he has worked for The Football Association, the Military of Defence, the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) and Blackheath Rugby FC. He has been a medical officer at the European Gymnastic Championship, the IAAF World Athletics Championship, and at mass participation events including the London Marathon and London Triathlon.
Dr Chu is skilled in diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound scanning and ultrasound-guided injections and offers the following treatments:
- Diagnostic Musculoskeletal Ultrasound
- Ultrasound-Guided Corticosteroid Injections to Joint, Soft Tissue and Tendon Sheath
- Ultrasound-Guided Hyaluronic Acid (viscosupplementation) Injections of Joint
- Ultrasound-Guided Shoulder Hydrodistension/Hydrodilatation Injection of Frozen Shoulder
- Ultrasound-Guided High-Volume Injection or Hydrodissection of Tendon Sheath
- Ultrasound-Guided Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Injections to Joint, Soft Tissue, Tendon and Tendon Sheath
- Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) of Soft Tissue and Tendon
Dr Chu graduated from King’s College London with a BSc in Pharmacology and then a Medical Degree in 2009. After finishing General Practice training, he obtained a Master’s degree (MSc) in Sport and Exercise Medicine at University College London. He then worked in the military at the Regional Rehabilitation Unit (RRU) in Colchester whilst completing a Postgraduate Diploma in Musculoskeletal Ultrasonography at University of East London. He gained entry for higher specialist training programme in Sport and Exercise Medicine in London where he trained in a variety of disciplines including musculoskeletal medicine, exercise medicine, orthopaedics, rheumatology, radiology, emergency medicine and public health. Following completion of higher specialist training he became a Fellow of The Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine UK.
He has published a number of research articles in peer-reviewed journals and his main interests are on tendinopathy and concussion. He enjoys teaching and has delivered lectures to medical students, junior doctors and allied health professionals. Furthermore, he is currently a clinical and educational supervisor for Sport and Exercise Medicine trainees in London.
