About this Event
Join us at the first meeting of our activism/organizing book club: a 7-part series in which we will meet monthly to discuss texts that we believe are necessary to understanding our past and impacting our collective future.
In the midst of our current national crisis, this book club is intended to serve as a source of inspiration – a six-volume primer on exactly what we can do to fight back together. From union organizing and civil rights advocacy to mutual aid and Pr*son reform, we’ll read about practical approaches to building collective power and effectively making change. All discussions will be co-facilitated by a community organizer who will help to contextualize our reading in the challenges of the present moment.
Our first meeting at The Chatham Bookstore on October 29 at 5:30 pm will allow us all to introduce ourselves, and discuss our intentions and expectations for this group. We will also preview our reading list, and have copies of the books available for purchase. While this book group is free, we do encourage you to buy the books from our bookstore when possible (at a 10% discount for book club members). We will also do our best to coordinate with local libraries so they have copies of the books available to borrow.
Additionally, at our first meeting we will finalize future meeting dates, and do our best to accomodate any scheduling conflicts. While we understand that life happens, and you might not be able to attend every meeting, we hope that book group members can make as many sessions as possible, so we can get to know each other as a group and build each month on our previous discussions. To this end, we're asking all interested participants to RSVP on this event page. We will cap the group to ensure open, productive conversations - so we encourage you to sign up sooner rather than later :)
Please reach out to [email protected] with any and all questions, or stop by the store!
