Acting on Film: Releasing the mask and being present in the frame

From April 20 to 24, you have a unique opportunity to work with the internationally acclaimed director, pedagogue and actress Lee Delong, whose working method has shaped generations of actors in Europe and the world for decades.

It is no coincidence that actors who have worked with Lee often say that it is one of the most transformative experiences in their professional development.

Among them is Zrinka Cvitešić (Olivier Award Winner) who, after working on the film On the Road, emphasized how much Lee's work process helped her in creating the character, but also in the further development of her career.

This workshop starts with a clown.

By working with the smallest mask in the world – a red nose, the actor enters a process that gradually reveals all those small protective mechanisms that we develop, as a person, as an actor, on stage, in front of the camera, and in life.

Paradoxically, it is the mask that often becomes the fastest way to the truth.

Once you go through this process, something very interesting happens:

We take off the mask... And with it, all other masks often fall off.

This opens up space for what the camera is actually looking for:

calmness, alertness and authentic presence.

The workshop is structured as an integral process.

The first part of the work is based on the clown technique and work with a mask. Through play, improvisation and physical exercises, actors come to greater freedom of expression, i.e. A clown inside.

And then comes the key moment of transformation.

He takes off his mask and sits in front of the camera.

Then we explore:

• how to stay fully present in the frame• how to speak the text effortlessly and "acting"• how to let the camera capture the real moment
• how to develop subtle and authentic film acting

This process leads to a condition that many actors describe as:

Relaxation, open senses and deep concentrated calm — just what the camera loves.

Lee Delong has been working with actors around the world for more than 40 years, and is known in the region for introducing clown and red nose work into professional acting training.

She has worked with numerous directors and productions and is a long-time collaborator of director Jasmila Žbanić.

For the last two years, Lee has devoted herself more to acting and directing, and it has been two years since her last workshop in the world, and more than 5 years since the workshop in Zagreb.

The number of places is limited. The language of work at the workshop is English.

The workshop is intended primarily for actors, but also for acting students who want to deepen their knowledge.

Lee Delong is an award-winning French-American director and actress who has been living and working on the international scene for 40 years. Since 1987, it has been operating intensively, not only from Peru to Qatar, but also in Southeast Europe. There she directs, writes and teaches and is known for introducing the red-nosed clown to the region. She recently completed a clownish deconstruction of Romeo and Juliet for the National Theatre in Sarajevo, which is the first time that clowns have appeared on the national scene in this part of the world. As an actress, she has collaborated with numerous directors, including Cédric Klapisch, Antoine Garceau, Luc Béraud, Fabrice Cazaneuve, Julie Delpy and Luc Besson, and has also performed on the stages of the Théâtre du Châtelet, La Rose des Vents and La Comédie St Etienne, and with Mathilde May in the play Le Banquet at the Théâtre du Rond Point and the Théâtre de Paris. He is a regular collaborator of Oscar-nominated Jasmila Žbanić in all phases of the film, from script development, to the casting process and intensive auditions, to empowering the entire film crew so that the collaboration goes smoothly and in mutual connection and understanding for each other (example: Love Island).
