WEEKLY SCHEDULE:
WEEK 1 - 20th April - Intorduction to Acrylic Paints
In this class we will explore various techniques for using acrylic paints and brushes, do some colour mixing exercises, and practice painting light and shade, before completing a small painted study of a fruit or vegetable from life in the studio.
WEEK 2 - 27th April - Patters & Texture in Still Life (INSPIRED BY…Peirre BONNARD)
Inspired by the French impressionist Pierre Bonnard, we will work from a still life arrangement in the studio, incorporating patterned cloths and objects made from different materials, to further expand our painting skills. We will try working on a brightly coloured background to heighten colour contrast.
WEEK 3 - 4th May - Landscapes using Analogous Colours
In this class we will choose a selection of analogous colours (close together on the colour wheel) and paint one or two small landscape studies using our chosen palettes. This class will include tips on landscape composition and how to approach painting them. We will look at some Impressionist paintings for colour inspiration.
WEEK 4 - 11th May - Stormy Seascapes (Inspired by JMW TURNER)
In this class we will look at ways to mimic the movement of stormy seas and skies in acrylic paint, including mixing colour and using texture to capture the energy in the waves and surf/clouds, looking to classic paintings by Turner for inspiration.
NO CLASS - 18th MAY
WEEK 5 - 25th May - Paint from Old Phots (Inspired by FAMILY & FRIENDS)
This week please bring in an old photo of family or friends that you would like to paint (the older the better, but it can be more recent if you can't find an old one) - think your parents, grandparents, or your children when they were young, you and a friend at college, an old family gathering etc. It can be a single figure or a group of figures, in a setting which can be indoors or outdoors. Avoid bringing in a single head shot if you can - we are looking to capture a moment in time, rather than just a face. We will work to a size that suits your photo (maximum A4 size), aiming to complete the painting in one session.
NO CLASS - 1st JUNE
WEEK 6 - 8th June - Paint from a Sketch!
Bring in a sketch of a landscape or interior that you have done recently from life (perhaps try creating a sketch during a previous "No Class" week?) and we will look at how to approach turning your sketch into an acrylic painting. Including choosing a colour palette and conveying your memory of the place in the painting. Your sketch can just be a simple pencil sketch, or can also incoporate colour if you wish. (You can also take a few reference photos as a back up, but we will try to work mostly from our sketches in the class) .
