VIC ACRA - Condition Assessment & Introduction to Digital Twin
Asset owners and infrastructure professionals are facing increasing pressure to extend the life of assets. This ACRA event brings together industry specialists to explore a modern approach to condition assessment and how emerging digital twin technologies are transforming the way we understand, monitor and plan for infrastructure performance.
Hear from three industry leaders bringing decades of combined expertise across structural engineering, non-destructive testing and digital innovation — offering practical insights you can apply directly to your work.
Presenter 1
Dr Farhad Nabavi — TECHNOCRETE
Advanced Condition Assessment and Infrastructure Service Life
Dr Farhad Nabavi is a Fellow of Engineers Australia and Chartered Professional Engineer with over 25 years of experience in structural engineering and infrastructure durability. As Founder and Managing Director of TECHNOCRETE, he has led the inspection and assessment of more than 1,500 infrastructure assets across Australia and authored over 35 peer-reviewed publications in concrete durability and service life modelling.
Presenter 2
Stuart McCurdy — PCTE
Ground Penetrating Radar for Concrete Inspection: A State-of-the-Art Review
Stuart McCurdy is a Mechanical Engineer and Sales Manager at Papworths Construction Testing Equipment (PCTE), with specialist expertise in Ground Penetrating Radar and data interpretation. His presentation will provide a comprehensive review of GPR technology for concrete inspection, drawing on data gathered across PCTE's wide range of field equipment.
Presenter 3
Ian Godson — Infracorr Consulting
Digital Twin Advancements in the Investigation of Buildings and Civil Structures
Ian Godson, Founder and Director of Infracorr Consulting, will demonstrate how photogrammetry-based digital twin models are revolutionising the way we investigate and document defects in buildings and structures. Drawing on over five years of real-world application, Ian will illustrate the key benefits of this approach — including 100% visual assessment of surface defects, more targeted investigatory testing, and significant improvements in speed and safety compared to traditional inspection techniques. His presentation will bring these benefits to life through live digital twin models from actual projects spanning high-rise buildings, chimney stacks, wharves, bridges and tunnels.
This seminar offers valuable insight into:
· Modern approaches to condition assessment for ageing infrastructure
· Non-destructive testing methods including Ground Penetrating Radar
· How digital twin technology is transforming building and structure investigation
· Service life modelling and durability design for long-term asset performance
· Real project case studies across bridges, marine structures, high-rise buildings and more
The evening will conclude with networking, providing an opportunity to connect with peers and industry leaders.
