About this Event
In the final Acid Seasons workshop of the year, we will capture autumn and winter roots in our own version of the spicey and pungeant tonic called Fire Cider.
We will learn about the uses of vinegar to extract herbal nutrients and flavours from plants, as well as store cupboard spices. Everyone will get the chance to make their own health boosting tonic to take home, using our very own house apple cider vinegar.
As always with the Acid Seasons series we will tap into folk lore and poetry to layer up our understanding of the plants. There will be home made wild tasters and herbal drinks, and we will learn some culinary uses of the vinegars too.
PAYMENT INFO:
As with everything we do, we would like this workshop to be accessible to everyone, so will be offering tickets on a sliding scale:
Unwaged: £10
(This will contribute towards the facilitator fee)
Waged: £20
(This will cover all the costs of your place on the workshop)
Pay-it-forward: £30
(This covers costs for the workshop and pays forward to contribute towards the cost of those on a lower or no wage)
How our pay-what-you-can ethos works:
We’ve always been a volunteer-run organisation, and none of our directors currently get paid for everything that goes on behind the scenes. We do, however, like to pay our artists, workshop facilitators, and any other bits of work that are project based or more skills specific. This means that while we’re not grant funded, we rely on ticket and product sales to be able to fund paying people fairly for the work that they do for us, to be able to keep what we do going sustainably and fund future activity!
That being said, nobody will be turned away for a lack of funds, so please get in touch if this is a barrier.
Here’s a link to a useful guide from Andro and Eve about what to think about when you’re working out how much you should pay!
ACCESSIBILITY
There is paid street parking around the location but it does get busy and so walking/public transport is recommended. All city centre busses will stop close to the venue.
ABOUT ACID SEASONS:
As the year spins, different plants and flowers take their turn in the performance. Each season has a unique flavour and herbal offering. Our needs shift and change each season too and the power of the plants available seem to correlate. No matter what the need, being nurtured by our collective mother (of vinegar) always seems to help.
We invite you to warp time with us, partly by slowing down to really notice what’s growing. Partly by preserving each season’s plants in vinegar extractions. Infused vinegars capture a moment in time and the distinct flavours of a specific place - the terroir. Together we will explore the herbal properties of our city’s flora and how they work with us humans. Whilst also going back in time with the flavours of simply-made vinegars like our ancestors have been making for thousands of years. When life turns sour, we embrace it with vinegar.
“In the end, your vinegar becomes more than just a vinegar. You will have established a personal spiritual connection and a sense of place. This is how real food should be” - Pascal Baudar
