About this Event
These pre-Halloween Achilles Wheel shows have been a rip-roaring annual tradition here at the Crazy Horse. Somehow after decades in existence, this band manages to keep things fresh and cutting edge. Their signature mix of effervescent jam-rock, Sierra blues, reggae, new-grass and psychedelic spontaneity is more potent than ever. Equipped with a vast repertoire of inspired originals along with classic covers, there are so many different pathways an Achilles Wheel show can explore.
It's rare to find bands that pack such a punch with meaningful song writing, vocal resonance and adventurous jam swagger. It also doesn't hurt to have one of the best guitarists in the west - Jonny "Mojo" Flores (Band Beyond Description) - on your team. Guitarist/vocalist/songwriter extraordinaire Paul Kamm has earned the status of a grandmaster around these parts. The chemistry between Mojo and Kamm is nothing short of lightning in a bottle.
Cut from a similar cloth as Phil Lesh, Bassist Shelby Snow is a marauding pirate of funky, elastic grooves who’s almost as fun to watch as he is to hear. Drummer Mark McCartney plays with the energy of a teenager and the finesse of a well-seasoned veteran. Second drummer David Clouse brings an extra dose of thunder and splashes of rhythmic intrigue.
This formula amounts to some potent musical medicine. Their connection with the Crazy Horse runs deep and you can always count on the band breaking new ground here. Many fans agreed that their last show here was the best they’d ever heard. Let’s see how they follow it up!
