The convening brings together scholars, traditional leaders, policymakers, diaspora communities, students, entrepreneurs, and the public to rethink how histories of slave raiding, colonial violence, displacement, and survival are remembered and how memory can be transformed into healing, partnership, and development.
This convening is connected to the proposed Museum of Healing and Reconciliation in Northern Ghana, a community-centered initiative that moves beyond narratives of victimhood to foreground resilience, resistance, dignity, and ancestral reconnection.
The event will also open conversations about diaspora engagement, heritage tourism, investment opportunities, community partnerships, youth involvement, and the role of public history in shaping a more connected future between Africa and the diaspora.
Alongside the Accra discussions, community engagement visits are planned for historically affected communities in Northern Ghana, including Navrongo, Paga, Bongo, Sandema, Mirigu, Bolgatanga, and Gwollu.
This is not simply a conversation about the past. It is a conversation about memory, belonging, repair, identity, and the future we can build together.
