About this Event
This National AccessAbility Week, Ampere is celebrating how STEAM makes work, life, and play more accessible in the Kawartha Lakes region, creating a stronger community and economy.
Join us on May 30th for a free, interactive community event featuring accessible sport, hands-on technology, and local supports—all designed to help people connect, explore, and experience accessibility in action.
Here’s what you can expect throughout the day:
Jon Thurston: Local Gold Medal, 2026 Paralympics, Wheelchair Curling
Fresh off his 2026 gold medal performance, Jon Thurston, a Dunsford native, will offer insights into both his athletic experiences and the broader impact of inclusive programming. He will also be available for a special meet-and-greet, where snap your photo with Jon (and his gold medal) and connect with a local athlete who has reached the world stage
Wynn Van Kooten : Local Wheelchair Basketball Athlete (and future champion)
Wynn is a local teen athlete whose journey is a powerful example of resilience, strength, and determination. Her life changed with a cancer diagnosis, but didn’t stop pursuing her passions - Wynn has continued to pursue sport and movement in new ways—most recently through wheelchair basketball. Wynn is leading a new generation of athletes who are helping shift perspectives around disability, ability, and inclusion, in sport and in community.
