Abuela’s Kitchen is a multimedia art exhibition curated by social justice activist Kelly Vilar of the Staten Island Urban Center. The exhibition centers on the symbolic Abuela (grandmother), who, through her kitchen, tells the story of social and environmental justice in the context of communities of color in New York City. Using the kitchen’s backdrop, spaces are filled with art representing Abuela’s story through her own lens as a grandmother who worries and hopes for her family.
