Join us in welcoming Maria Leite to the gallery. A far reaching solo show that promises to deliver. Maria is a prolific Gainesville artist whose body of work covers a large swath of abstract concepts. Haunting, melancholy landscapes, resurrected bodies and structures from dreams past. Abstract-ed is a solo exhibition visual art project that
explores abstraction as a means to represent complex sociopolitical realities,
personal narratives, and collective emotions.
The body of work includes over 60 pieces created between 2015 and 2026 that
span photography, painting, drawing, collage, and mixed media. The exhibition
aims to provoke dialogue around issues such as social justice, mindfulness, and
the evolving meaning of freedom.
As an artist-educator with a background in curriculum and diversity studies, my
goal is to use abstraction not only as a personal expression, but as an invitation
to collective reflection. I believe abstraction holds transformative power. It allows
us to visualize the unspeakable and to hold space for contradictions,
multiplicities, and invisible truths. It challenges the norm and allows new
perspectives to emerge.
