What do we celebrate?
? In 2014, Daniel Valenzuela and Nadia Tapia started to teach Argentine Tango in Helsinki. At that time, we were both doing doctoral studies at the University of Helsinki and tango teaching started as a small side gig.
? Since then, we have taught many lessons, organised milongas, were invited to events to teach and perform. A good amount of our students have become regular dancers at the local milongas and even abroad.
? In the first years, we taught under the name of “Nadia y Daniel Tango” but in 2021 the name was replaced by “Abrazo Tango”. The change of name reflects the change in the work structure as Nadia started to teach full time and collaborate with different dancers while keeping the long time collaboration with Daniel ?
? Today Abrazo Tango is a recognised and respected actor in our community and we want to celebrate the path that brought us here.

------ Friday 18.10 ------
?El Atico Helsinki, Kumpulantie 1, 8th floor, Helsinki.
➡️ 18.00-19.20
WS1 "Technique class: Legato 'Keep calm and keep the flow' The keys to soft, smooth and elegant dance. The main idea is how to connect different steps into one movement or in other words, how to make several steps/figures to be a dance. This class is also a preparation for some of the following group lessons"
(Solo lesson - without a partner)
➡️ 19.30-20.50
WS2 "Pleasure of Movement: What's the difference between dancing tango and doing figures? This is a key question: when dancing, ask yourself, "What does this figure add?" We do giros for a nice couple's rotation. Why do a cross or an americana? Let's explore the natural advantages of these figures and the unique benefits and feelings they offer!
------ Saturday 19.10 ------
?Kuortaneenkatu 13, 2th floor, Helsinki (same building as El Atico, entrance through rear door)
Mini-course: "Cascada de Sacadas"
Sacadas come in many varieties—“for him,” “for her,” at different steps, and more. They involve complex, engaging interactions between dancers (sometimes it's like hunting for legs!). Sacadas add a special dynamic to the dance, and by combining several we can create a cascade effect. And, of course, sacadas are a great example for practicing the techniques of turns! (which is what we will focus on).
➡️ 11.30-12.50 WS3 Cascada de Sacadas 1
➡️ 13.00-14.20 WS4 Cascada de Sacadas 2
➡️ 20.00-01.00

WS5 Musicality. Extending the Horizons. (A lecture with some practical exercises, preparing for the next classes) Let's explore the concept of musicality. What does it mean to dance with the music and be connected with it? How do we identify key elements in the music, and how can certain rules guide us in this process? What are these rules, and what should we know? Musicality is a world of its own, and here, we’re talking about expanding our horizons.
(Solo lesson - without a partner)
➡️ 14.30-15.50 WS6 " In the mood for Vals 1."
➡️ 16.00-17.20 WS7 " In the mood for Vals 2"
Mini-course: "In the mood for Vals"
The vals creates a timeless sensation of flying, demanding us to maintain a seamless flow as we dance. Vals classes offer a perfect opportunity to refine various aspects of our dance: dynamics, musicality, circularity, and most importantly, connection. In this mini-course, we'll focus on the following topics:
Dynamics: Maintaining the Flow
Rhythmical Patterns in Vals
Circularity in Vals

About our guest:
Viacheslav Ivanov (Slava) started to dance tango in 2000. In 2003 he started to teach and founded his own school. From 2006 onwards tango teaching has become his main occupation. Since 2015 he is based in Slovenia and now travels all over Europe giving workshops. During the classes he emphasizes the idea that it is not so important WHAT to do, but HOW to do it and what one can put INSIDE. In his view, when we learn a step/figure/sequence, of course we have to know how it works, but also it s important to understand why we need it and what it can give us. In his lessons, he emphasizes the role of connection, dynamics, quality of movement and musicality, all of which should be based on the proper Techniques.
More information about Viacheslav can be found on his page

"When you approach to the Sea for the first time, you can see how the sun beams play on it's surface. And looking at how beautiful is it from a distance, you even can't imagine what treasures are hidden inside, how DEEP is it.. So, the same we could say about Tango."
