A free art exhibit that explores possibilities for joy, laughter and resilience within the confines of late-stage capitalism.
About this Event

Unit 270 is pleased to present new work by Stephanie Avery, a Toronto-based multidisciplinary artist whose practice centers on interactivity and the transformation of familiar spaces and materials. Holding a BFA in Visual Art from York University, Avery works across murals, installations, and studio based painting, reimagining everyday environments as sites of connection and shared meaning. Her work frequently engages public space through large scale imagery, vibrant forms, and bold colour. This exhibition brings Avery’s artwork into Unit 270 through a series of smaller-scale works that merge her mural practice with her studio process. Many pieces are created on repurposed wooden condominium advertisements, with original graphics still visible on their reverse, directly referencing the shifting ecology of Toronto’s built environment. As rapid development and gentrification continue to displace essential “third spaces” beyond home and work, Avery transforms these discarded markers of real estate expansion into expressions of resilience, joy, and collective possibility, reframing the visual noise of late stage capitalism as material for connection and care.
