About this Event

Aberdeen City Heritage Trust is grateful for the opportunity to use the Town and County Hall, the Townhouse, Aberdeen for an in-person only event and networking opportunity.

A drinks reception from 7.00pm will be followed by presentations at 7.30pm with the event ending at 9.00pm.

Our lecturer:

Very Reverend Dr. A. Emsley Nimmo- St Margaret of Scotland, Aberdeen
Born in Glasgow Dr Nimmo has lived in Aberdeen City for the greater part of his life. He is a former pupil of Aberdeen Academy in the Schoolhill. After graduating at King’s College, University of Aberdeen, he trained for the priesthood of the Scottish Episcopal Church in Edinburgh alongside Masters studies at New College, later attaining a PhD from University of Aberdeen. He was elected a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland in 1993 and Honorary Fellow of Aberdeen University in 2023.
In ministry he was made Deacon and ordained Priest at St Andrew’s Cathedral, Inverness 1978-1981, Priest-in-Charge and Rector of St Peter’s Stornoway with the care also of St Moluag’s Eorropaidh, was Rector of St Michael and All Saints Edinburgh from 1984-1990, since when he has been Rector at St Margaret of Scotland, Aberdeen. He was made a Canon of St Andrew’s Cathedral Aberdeen in 1996 and Dean of Aberdeen & Orkney in 2007 and is now Dean Emeritus with a keen interest in church architecture.

Lecture Subject: The Incomparable Comper
Sir John Ninian Comper was a Scottish architect, one of the last of the great Gothic Revival architects. His work almost entirely focused on the design, restoration and embellishment of churches, and the design of ecclesiastical furnishings, stained glass and vestments.
