From Envelope Performance to Net-Zero Buildings: Strategies for High-Performance Envelopes. This month's luncheon will explore how buildings can play a powerful role in the journey to net zero emissions. This session will explain what “net zero” means in simple terms, why buildings are a source of greenhouse gas emissions in Canada, and how better building envelope designs can make a real difference. We’ll also look at how smarter material choices, energy efficient construction, and durable, adaptable buildings can reduce both environmental impact and long-term costs.
Our presenter Maysoun Ismaiel, MSc, Ph.D, P.Eng, a building envelope restoration design engineer at RJC Engineers. She holds a PhD in Civil Engineering (Cross Discipline-Building Science) from University of Alberta, where her research focused on improving the thermal performance of masonry walls and earned multiple graduate awards. Maysoun has combined research and industry experience, she has taught at the university level and published in peer-reviewed journals, and presented her work at national and international conferences. At RJC, she works on building envelope assessments and rehabilitation projects, bringing a strong focus on energy efficiency and practical, high-performance design solutions. Her work bridges research and real-world application, helping advance more sustainable and resilient buildings.
