Let The Hurdy Gurdies take you on a breathtaking tour of music’s greatest epoch. The band’s aim is loud and clear: to blaze through this decade with such raw energy as to make you feel that you are hearing these songs for the very first time.Side one focuses on the early ’60s. Side two goes psychedelic, with the flares and far-out shirts to match. The Hurdy Gurdies will perform tracks by (among others) The Beatles, The Kinks, The Spencer Davis Group, The Shadows, The Zombies, The Yardbirds, and Cream – while employing a range of period-appropriate instruments, from electric sitars to Hofner basses, harmonicas, djembe, and Telstar drums. So, it’s time to dust off the vinyl, stack up those 45s on the spindle, and get ready for a joyous retro-night with the South West’s top ’60s band.
The Hurdy Gurdies formed in August 2021, coming together out of a mutual appreciation of ’60s bands and musicianship.
They are all based in Cornwall and tour regularly. The band comprises of:
Mathew McCarthy on bass guitars and vocals;
Mark ‘Dr Bongo’ Crees on drums;
Patrick Gayle on lead and rhythm guitars;
Barry Elms on a vast array of harmonicas, keyboards, guitars, and vocals.
