A rousing celebration of winter and Christmas is the centrepiece of our forthcoming concert on Saturday 29th November. From the composer of the hugely popular The Armed Man and Adiemus, Stella Natalis (Star of Birth) by Karl Jenkins is a kaleidoscope of colourful movements conveying the Christmas message and more, using a broad palette of inspiration including Zulu text, references to Hindu Gods, as well as established Latin texts and Old Testament writings.
Not often heard in live performance it includes some challenging virtuoso trumpet playing and beautifully tender soprano solos, all combined in an eclectic orchestration which includes an array of classical and ethnic percussion instruments. Our talented performers with Fordingbridge Choral Society include virtuoso trumpet player Joseph Skypala, the accomplished percussion duo of Catherine Ring and Ben Lewis, and the hugely popular return of Amy Carson, soprano. The Edwards Ensemble with Simon Earl (Assistant Director of Music, Christchurch Priory, organ and piano) complete a stellar line up of artists for this winter celebration, all led by our Music Director Nigel Edwards.
To complete the programme FCS includes a number of short pieces including Blest Pair of Sirens by Hubert Parry (of Jerusalem fame), and the world premier of Paul Carr’s Yet One Voice Sings, which was specially commissioned for FCS in memory of our friend and former choir member Pauline Umfreville.
