A Tour of the Austin House: The “Pasteboard Palace” in Hartford
Join us for a presentation featuring a room-by-room tour of the house that legendary Wadsworth Atheneum director A. Everett “Chick” Austin, Jr., built in 1930 in the West End of Hartford. Led by Wadsworth Atheneum docent Jan Beatty, the tour will take you through the house that was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1994 because of its architectural significance and its history as a gathering place for leaders of the international arts world during the 1930s. After retiring as the art and architecture editor in the College Division of Oxford University Press, Jan became a docent at the Wadsworth. She has been guiding tours both at the museum and at the Austin House for the past 10 years.
