Come ready to learn, connect, and experience the evolving story of Fairmount Park.
About this Event

Join us for a morning exploring one of Southern California’s most historic and beloved public spaces, Fairmount Park. Originally designed in 1911 by the Olmsted Brothers, Fairmount Park has long served as a civic and cultural anchor for the City of Riverside, offering a rich blend of natural landscapes, recreation, and layered community history. Coffee and light pastries will be provided.

This special event brings together voices shaping the park’s future while honoring its past. Pamela Galera, FASLA and Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Riverside, will share insights into the City’s current master planning effort. She will be joined by Oscar Johnson (MIG), Rosy Aranda (Cahuilla/Serrano) filmmaker and Professor, and Glenn Wenzel of the Riverside Historical Society and the Friends of Mt. Rubidoux, to touch on the many considerations involved in planning for a park of this scale and significance—from recreation and ecology to cultural history and long-term stewardship. Attendees will also hear perspectives that highlight the site’s deeper cultural roots, including insight on the local tribal village.

Following the discussion, attendees are invited to continue connecting over a casual, buy-your-own lunch at Tio's Tacos.

For those who wish to extend the experience even longer, the afternoon will include an informal group visit to The Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art & Culture and the Riverside Art Museum—celebrating Riverside’s vibrant arts and cultural scene. Student tickets are only $10.95 and the museum closes at 5.
