Join us at the Upstairs Tavern at Fadensonnen to support The Women's Health Center of Maryland. With readings by Zefyr Lisowski, Diana Khoi Nguyen, and Alejandro Varela, and hosted by Jenny Xie. Suggested donation is $20, sliding scale.
Zefyr Liswoskiis the author of the essay collection Uncanny Valley Girls (Harper Perennial 2025). She’s also the author of two poetry collections, Girl Work (Noemi Press 2024), winner of the 2025 Lambda Literary Award in Transgender Poetry, and Blood Box (Black Lawrence 2019). She lives in Brooklyn and at zefyrlisowski.com.
Diana Khoi Nguyen is the author of Root Fractures and Ghost Of. A Kundiman and MacDowell fellow, and member of the Vietnamese artist collective, She Who Has No Master(s), she teaches in the MFA programs at Randolph College and University of Pittsburgh.
Alejandro Varela is the author of the novel The Town of Babylon (Astra House, 2022), a finalist for the National Book Award, and the short story collection The People Who Report More Stress (Astra, 2023), a finalist for the International Latino Book Award, and longlisted for the Aspen Literary Prize, the Story Prize, and the Jean Stein Award. His most recent novel, Middle Spoon (Viking, 2025) was nominated for the Joyce Carol Oates Prize. Varela holds a masters in public health from the University of Washington.
's mission is to provide high-quality reproductive health care that honors, respects, and affirms the autonomy and dignity of their patients. Opened in 2023 as a direct response to the Dobbs decision that ended the Women's Health Clinic of West Virginia's ability to provide abortion care, WHCM aims to serve rural populations in both West Virginia and Maryland. We are thrilled to support their work.
