Immerse yourself in a soothing live experience as Grammy Nominee Charu Suri and her ensemble blend the meditative beauty of evening ragas with the subtle artistry of jazz, offering a concert designed for deep relaxation and quiet reflection.
Created as a deeply restorative sonic experience, SHAYAN marks acclaimed composer and pianist Charu Suri’s first departure from her Billboard-charting raga-jazz albums. Often hailed as the ‘Queen of Raga Jazz’, the Indo-American artist has built an international reputation, performing at prominent venues across the globe, and was recently nominated for a Grammy Award.
Centred on the calming power of evening ragas, SHAYAN is conceived as music for stillness and rest. Minimal arrangements and unhurried phrasing allow ragas such as Kalyani, Jog, Durga, Bagesri, Desh and Mohanam to unfold gently, creating a contemplative soundscape designed to encourage deep listening and quiet reflection.
For this live performance, Suri is joined by vocalist Sharmi Surianarain, bassist Shashank Das and drummer Rohan Parihar. Together, the quartet brings selections from SHAYAN to the stage, alongside additional repertoire, balancing the introspective mood of the ragas with the spontaneity and sensitivity of a jazz ensemble.
