A Small Wish (آرزوی کوچک) marks the first joint performance by Paris-based Afghan poet Ramin Mazhar and Vienna-based Iranian oud player, singer, and composer Avin Ahmadi. The focus is on storytelling—told through language and sound, through poetry and song.
Ramin Mazhar's poetry is shaped by his experiences of war, exile, and political oppression. With gentle melancholy, he describes landscapes of loss and turmoil, while maintaining an unshakeable hope for peace and freedom. His poems are not just texts, but performative soundscapes.
Avin Ahmadi's music, on the other hand, is “pure poetry” in itself. Deeply rooted in Persian tradition and inspired by classical poetry, she unfolds an emotional cosmos on the oud and in her voice that expands, deepens, and reinterprets language. Together with her duo partner, pianist Reza Tavakoli, she has created new compositions especially for Ramin Mazhar's poems, in which words and music meet and respond to each other.
Together, the artists create a dialogue – they reveal the music of language and the language of music. Their performance is both a poetic act and a political statement: an artistic contribution to intercultural understanding.

Mit A Small Wish (آرزوی کوچک) begegnen sich der in Paris lebende afghanische Dichter Ramin Mazhar und die in Wien beheimatete iranische Oud-Spielerin, Sängerin und Komponistin Avin Ahmadi erstmals in einer gemeinsamen Performance. Im Zentrum steht das Storytelling - erzählt durch Sprache und Klang, durch Gedicht und Gesang.
Ramin Mazhars Lyrik ist geprägt von der Erfahrung von Krieg, Exil und politischer Unterdrückung. Mit sanfter Melancholie beschreibt er Landschaften des Verlusts und der Zerrissenheit und bewahrt zugleich eine unerschütterliche Hoffnung auf Frieden und Freiheit. Seine Gedichte sind nicht nur Texte, sondern performative Klangräume.
Avin Ahmadis Musik wiederum ist selbst „reine Poesie“. Tief verwurzelt in der persischen Tradition und inspiriert von klassischer Dichtung, entfaltet sie auf der Oud und in ihrer Stimme einen emotionalen Kosmos, der Sprache erweitert, vertieft und neu deutet. Gemeinsam mit ihrem Duo-Partner, dem Pianisten Reza Tavakoli hat sie eigens für Ramin Mazhars Gedichte neue Kompositionen geschaffen, in denen sich Wort und Musik begegnen und einander antworten.
Gemeinsam erschaffen die Künstler*innen einen Dialog – sie zeigen die Musik der Sprache und die Sprache der Musik. Ihre Performance ist zugleich poetischer Akt und politisches Statement: ein künstlerischer Beitrag zur interkulturellen Verständigung.
