Join local improv enthusiast Henry Balzarini every 2nd and 4th Saturday, 11am–1pm, all summer through September for free improv workshops! Using improv games, we will become a fast thinking, in the moment, loose goose brigade. On the 2nd Saturday of every month, we invite experienced improvisers to join us for advanced warmup and group game activities. Bring games to share! A lot of these sessions will also be devoted to brainstorming together and planning for a possible performance-based workshop later this year.
On the 4th Saturday of every month, it's a free for all! All are welcome, from brand-newbies to the most seasoned veteran, for a series of new and favorite improv games. Focus will be on loosening up and having fun. If you are looking for serious improv study this won’t be it, but might be a good way to ease into it. That all said, the main objective is fun on a Saturday.
For every session, registration is encouraged but not required: email [email protected].
These workshops are FREE- funded by the Crossroads Cultural District and Mass Cultural Council.
about your host:
I’m Henry Balzarini, a native of Boston and Western Mass resident for almost 20 years. In the 1980’s I lived in New York City where I studied acting and tapped into Big Apple essence. Then back to Boston, where I acted in various scripted roles and then found improv, and haven’t been the same since. I performed in improv groups and productions in Boston and Brattleboro, and taught teen groups in Keene, NH and most recently, Zoomed improv during the pandemic.
Many of the surefire routes to joy, in my life, have been the times I’ve spent doing improv-based activities, whether it’s creating, playing, performing or just transforming a moment. To me it’s more a state of mind/being. When I watch the joy and transformation that comes about when people play improv games and work together as a group, I’m transformed as well. In a safe setting, participants, especially adults, can let loose and go places they never thought they could. It’s the act of letting go, of enjoying a perfect synthesis of minds. It’s all made me a better person. It’s time again to share that joy.
