About this Event
"Underneath this asphalt, our ancestors still hear us, and they're calling on us to continue. This is not the end. This is the beginning of a new chapter."
-Corrina Gould, Sogorea Te’ Land Trust
Join us in Oakland or virtually for A Sacred Kinship: Reciprocity and Rematriation with tribal leader and visionary Corrina Gould (Co-Founder & Director of Sogorea Te’ Land Trust), interdisciplinary artist and activist Ariel Luckey (Development Director of Sogorea Te’ Land Trust) and the soul-stirring voices of Wildchoir.
As a whole society, we are still discovering what it means to confront the harms of our histories and to understand what it takes to heal, repair and restore. Amid the fractures and collapse of our modern world, new life is being planted and old ways are being remembered - rooted in Indigenous wisdom and the traditional ecological knowledge that is connected to place. Leading the way are Indigenous women and communities revitalizing their languages and lifeways, reclaiming their lands and inviting humanity to return to a deeper belonging with the world.
What does it mean to be a guest on Indigenous peoples land? How can we step into kinship, accountability and right relationship with each other and the places where we live? How can we participate in the shift from separation and supremacy to a new chapter grounded in soil, sacredness and solidarity?
Come gather as we learn from and support the vital work of Sogorea Te’ Land Trust, listen to the stories and heart wisdom of Corrina Gould, and be uplifted by the creative fire of Ariel Luckey and Wildchoir. We are being called into sacred kinship together...listening to our ancestors, future generations and the living Earth.

Health Practices for our In-Person Participants
As we gather for in-person community events (while maintaining the option for virtual participation), we recognize that there is a wide range of health considerations and risk tolerance levels.
To support the health & safety of our entire community, we engage in the following practices:
- We invite folks to wear a mask if they feel called to and we provide masks and hand sanitizer at our Welcome Table.
- For anyone experiencing symptoms that could be associated with a contagious sickness, please do not attend in person and join us virtually.
Thank you for your understanding and partnership. Clarifying questions can be sent to: [email protected]
This gathering is in support of Sogorea Te' Land Trust.
Sogorea Te' Land Trust is an urban land trust founded in 2012 with the goals of returning traditionally Chochenyo and Karkin lands in the San Francisco Bay Area to Indigenous stewardship and cultivating more active, reciprocal relationships with the land.

Let the Land Breathe Campaign: Let the Land Breathe is a fundraising campaign to raise $1Million dollars to begin the restoration of the West Berkeley Shellmound. The Lisjan people have fought for decades and waited for centuries for this moment: the rematriation of our oldest sacred site, the West Berkeley Shellmound. Now that the land has been returned, the process of healing begins.

Guest Speaker: Corrina Gould (Lisjan Ohlone) is the chair and spokesperson for the Confederated Villages of Lisjan—she was born and raised in Oakland, CA, the village of Huichin. A mother of three and grandmother of four, Corrina is the Co-Director for The Sogorea Te’ Land Trust, a women-led organization within the urban setting of her ancestral territory of the Bay Area that works to return Indigenous land to Indigenous people, and the Co-Founder and Lead Organizer for Indian People Organizing for Change, a small Native run organization that works on Indigenous people issues and sponsored annual Shellmound Peace Walks from 2005 to 2009. These walks brought about education and awareness of the desecration of sacred sites in the greater Bay Area. As a tribal leader, she has continued to fight for the protection of the Shellmounds, uphold her nation's inherent right to sovereignty, and stand in solidarity with her Indigenous relatives to protect our sacred waters, mountains, and lands all over the world.

Guest Artist: Ariel Luckey is an interdisciplinary artist and activist born and raised in Oakland, California. He is the Development Director at Sogorea Te’ Land Trust, an urban Indigenous women-led land trust, where he co-created the Shuumi Land Tax, a reparative grassroots funding strategy for rematriation initiatives. Ariel has actively supported an emerging national network of Indigenous land taxes and the return of numerous land sites to Indigenous stewardship. He is also a co-founder of Jews On Ohlone Land, a vibrant Jewish collective that is learning together how to be good guests in Lisjan territory. Ariel has been an Artist in Residence at La Peña Cultural Center, the White Privilege Conference, and June Jordan’s Poetry for the People at U.C. Berkeley. His autobiographical plays Free Land and Amnesia illustrate his life as a cartography of race, class, land, and radical genealogy. Ariel is a storyteller, strategist, and coalition builder.
