A Printmaking Workshop, learn the art of Lino Cut.

Conducted by HCG Foundation.

Step into the world of Indian printmaking with this hands-on workshop. Indian printmaking typically involves traditional techniques like woodblock printing and modern methods such as lithography, which began to be established in India in the late 19th century. In the mid-20th century, Indian artists started using low cost, reproducible material such as linoleum sheets to create prints, because it exhibited graphic clarity many used it to reveal powerful political and social messages. This Lino cut method, is what you will get to explore.

Printmaking, you can be both creative and experimental.

Guided by Artist and printmaker, Akshay Bhat.

Learn the art of Lino Cut, a process which involves transferring a design to a linoleum block, then carving away the unprinted areas with various tools to create a reversed relief surface, which is inked and pressed onto paper using a manual printmaking machine.

Come unlock your creative side, with printmaking. You get to take home your own print and the Lino Sheet which can be used to create more prints in the future!

This event is organized by HCG Foundation, which is an NGO that works towards raising funds to support cancer patients who come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

Steps to follow:

1. Design & Transfer.

Sketch: Create a design on paper (Remember the final print will be a reverse image).

Transfer: Flip the tracing paper, Trace the design onto the linoleum sheet using a sharp pencil.

Outline: Go over the sketch with a permanent marker to make it more visible

2. Carving

Carve: Use sharp linoleum cutters and tools and carve into the linoleum

Method: Direct the tools outward, away from yourself

3. Inking

Roll: Use an ink roller to apply a thin even layer to the linoleum sheet.

Distribute the ink evenly on the sheet.

4. Printing

Align: Place the linoleum onto the printmaking press and place a sheet of paper on top of the inked linoleum

Printing: Use a printmaking press to manually roll it

Result: Your finished print will be reveled
