About this Event
In partnership with host My Urban Contemporary Experience (@muce305), Highlander Center presents a free screening of "A Place of Rage" Feb. 12 at 6:30pm ET
"A Place of Rage" is an exuberant award-winning documentary film by Pratibha Parmar which made its debut in 1991, yet its content is still one of the richest and most cherished, including rare interviews with Angela Davis, June Jordan and Alice Walker.
A celebration of the contributions and achievements of prominent African American women, the film features the context of civil rights, Black power, lesbian and gay rights and the feminist movement, with the trio reassessing how women like Rosa Parks and Fannie Lou Hamer revolutionized American society and the world generally.
Since 1932, Highlander has centered the experiences of directly-impacted people in our region, knowing that together, we have the solutions to address the challenges we face in our communities and to build more just, equitable, and sustainable systems and structures.
Our workshops and programming bring people together across issues, identity, and geography to share and build skills, knowledge, and strategies for transformative social change. Our "Off The Hill" film screening and discussion series uses media to convene communities and facilitate consciousness-raising around political, social, and cultural issues.
