Join us at The Sound Temple for this Bespoke Evening Event designed to capture the hearts of our Western Australian School Principals.
Our very own well respected Aboriginal Elder Dr Noel Nannup that we lovingly call Uncle Noel has a calling within his soul to speak with Principals across this land to evoke a stirring within. His hope is to spend a night with our school leaders and bring an even deeper true heart connection to our incredible ancestry of this country.
Uncle Noel has walked these lands and spent many a time up here sharing in a yarning or a story. Over ten years ago he blessed the five acre property up in Sawyers Valley with a gift of its traditional name “Yunga Karak Boodja.” Also known as The Sound Temple and Sawyers Valley Retreat, Noel buried healing crystals and spoke to Dawn and John about totems animals for their boys. After time a deep trust was built, Uncle Noel also gifted permission for the land to be used to conduct traditional sound healing modalities – and so it is………
More than ten years later, The Sound Temple just Celebrated its’ 10th Year Celebration and part of that came the birthing of a new gift, it is beautiful but it came with a serious message.
Artist Elina El Daher offered her gift of artistry talents to this special occasion and between herself and Uncle Noel an art piece was created called “It’s Time To Listen.” It is all about the ear canal, the sacred geometry and that led into a silk painting of the nautilus shell which in itself has so much meaning, how many times do you pick up a shell and put it to your ear? The art piece became a community piece and each time after a sound session occurred each person was invited to add their own gold dot to the painting and this symbolised their own bright light and also community, togetherness and creativity. This ‘Soul Art Legacy’ piece will be on display at The Sound Temple at this event.
Sound is a large part of what is so special about The Sound Temple and this evening is all about listening to an Ancient Story, then you will be taken on a Sound Healing Journey in the sound chamber that has been specifically designed for its resonance and healing properties.
Uncle Noel has just had an extended time on country and he returns with new insights that can taken back into the lives of our school children via osmosis with these amazing Principals. We are calling all Principals and Deputy Principals who want to deepen their commitment and connection to our Sacred Land, there are so many that are consciously bringing about changes from within the core of their schools and we want to encourage this movement.
This October a new fine silk art piece will be birthed and it’s called ‘Koort Boodja’ – Heart Land and Uncle Noel, artist Elina El Daher and The Sound Temple founder Dawn Steel will map out Song Lines (Journey Ways) across Western Australia and each person who attends this event will also be able to contribute to this community ‘Soul Art Legacy’ piece.
The art piece is destined to travel the South West of Western Australia over the next 2 years and will be completed at the time a very important astrological constellation happens for our traditional people, more will be revealed about this date as time moves on. As the piece of art and its team travels the state, events will be created to create engagement in Ancient Stories, Sacred Sound and Art bringing Healing to all those who participate.
On completion of its travels over the next two years “Koort Boodja’ will be auctioned off and the proceeds are deemed for the building of a Language Academy – A Knowledge Centre in the Bush, on Country for Uncle Noel to impart all that he knows about our culture.
We invite you to share in this most intimate evening with our team and take the opportunity to connect with Uncle Noel in a small group of under 30 people. Network with other dynamic Principals who are taking the lead with this important work, meet our team and sound healers, then share a supper with us and enjoy a little yarning! All of this in the peaceful ambiance of The Sound Temple. We would love to see you here!
MammungThe launch of ‘Koort Boodja – Heart Land’ will occur during the 2024 Mundaring Hills Open Studios (MHOS) Art in The Hills trail that The Sound Temple have so proudly supported over the years.
This year on the magnificent grounds of The Sound Temple we are hosting four exhibiting artists along with Artist Talks, Sound- Supper- Art Events and Art -Story Events. It was also fitting to host screenings of the film MAMMUNG – The Whale Story, which follows Dr Noel Nannup in recalling the significance of places which are now below the sea and explaining the process of change that indigenous people endured through the narrative dreaming story of MAMMUNG the whale.
