About this Event
“Preservation must become a forward-thinking practice that keeps heritage relevant in the present.” - Leo Marmol
Hosted by Napa County Landmarks, a non-profit organization.
Preservation as Innovation
Architect Leo Marmol draws on decades of experience restoring modernist landmarks in a candid conversation about where historic preservation is failing and how it must evolve. Preservation as Innovation addresses the disconnect between traditional preservation frameworks and the urgent realities of a rampant housing crisis. Marmol argues that preservation must move beyond procedural nostalgia to new systems that embrace sustainability and community needs. Instead of encasing historic sites in amber, Marmol proposes preservation as innovation: a forward-thinking practice that protects meaning by making heritage relevant in the present tense.
