About this Event

About the event

Join us for "A Muslim Perspective on Ethical Consumerism," featuring Zehra Abbas, a social activist and entrepreneur. Zehra will be in conversation with us at the Halal Dinner Club and share her North American experiences and insights from running Studio.89, a vegan non-profit social enterprise and community hub. The event will explore ethical consumerism from a faith-based perspective in the domains of halal meat, excessive consumerism and the myriad of choices we face as consumers.

This is the only talk Zehra Abbas is doing on her trip to the UK from her native Canada, so please do join us for this very special event, come and bring your questions and we will have a networking section at the end.

Join us for a Vegan meal at the 5* Veg Box Cafe on Baker St, London (main course & drink). Early bird pricing is £28.50 until the 31st of August, and we only have a limited number of seats (20). Thereafter tickets will be £33.

Speaker Bio

Zehra is the founder and president of Studio.89, a non-profit community hub with a fair trade, vegan cafe. Studio.89 partners with local organizations and schools to empower marginalized youth through educational workshops and programs. This free community space has also created a home for a broad range of organizers to cultivate social impact initiatives. Studio.89 aims to benefit humans, animals, and the environment. Zehra also leads Kind World Charity to advance youth leadership development through empathy education based on neuroscience principles. Empathy is believed to be a key motivator of altruistic and compassionate behaviour.
Zehra is the cofounder of Green Islam which strives to inspire Muslims to incorporate Islamic teachings of ethics, justice, and compassion into their daily lives. Green Islam collates and produces academic research and advocacy toolkits. Zehra's latest endeavour, EcoMuslim Alliance, is forming a coalition of environmental and vegan initiatives in the Muslim world to build organizational capacity and advocate for policy change.
